Privacy notice
Last updated: 3 October 2026
This notice explains what personal data the Salt and Lava website collects, why, and what rights you have. We keep it short because we collect very little.
1. Who is responsible for your data
Salt and Lava is a brand being set up on Lanzarote, Canary Islands, Spain. Until the business is registered (planned for 2027), the person responsible for your data (the “data controller”) is:
- Name: Megan Mote, trading as Salt and Lava
- Location: Lanzarote, Canary Islands, Spain
- Email: hola@saltandlava.es
2. What data we collect
- When you use the contact form: your name, email address, what you’re interested in, and your message.
- When you email us directly: your email address and whatever you include in your message.
- When you visit the site: your IP address and basic technical details (browser, device, time of visit) are received by our web host and by Google Fonts, which supplies the site’s typefaces.
We do not use analytics, advertising or tracking tools.
3. Why we use it, and the legal basis
- To reply to your message. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in answering enquiries, or taking steps you ask for before a possible purchase (Article 6(1)(f) and 6(1)(b) GDPR).
- To run and secure the website. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in keeping the site working and safe (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
We do not use your details for marketing, and we never sell them. If we offer a newsletter in future, we will only add you with your explicit consent.
4. Who receives your data
We use a small number of service providers to run the website and handle messages:
- FormSubmit (formsubmit.co), which passes contact form messages on to our inbox.
- Google, which provides our email inbox (Gmail) and the website’s fonts (Google Fonts).
- Our web hosting provider, which stores the website and keeps standard server logs.
If you follow a link to Instagram, Instagram’s own privacy policy applies.
5. Transfers outside the European Union
Some of these providers process data in the United States. Where that happens, the transfer relies on the safeguards the provider uses, such as the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.
6. How long we keep it
We keep enquiries and related emails for up to 12 months after our last contact with you, then delete them. If your enquiry leads to a purchase, we may need to keep some details longer to meet legal obligations, such as tax records.
7. Your rights
You can ask us to:
- see the personal data we hold about you
- correct it
- delete it
- limit how we use it, or object to us using it
- give you a copy in a portable format
To do any of these, email hola@saltandlava.es. We will reply within one month.
8. Making a complaint
If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Spanish data protection authority, the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos (aepd.es). We’d appreciate the chance to sort it out with you first.
9. Do you have to give us your data?
No. We need your name and email address to reply to a message sent through the contact form. Everything else is optional.
10. Automated decisions
We do not make automated decisions or build profiles about you.
11. Cookies
This website does not set cookies and does not use analytics or tracking. When the page loads, Google Fonts receives your IP address in order to deliver the typefaces.
12. Children
This website is not aimed at children under 14, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
13. Changes to this notice
We may update this notice, for example when the business is registered. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
